Lake Baikal is one of the world's most ancient lochs. But a few people know that the Baikal caves are even older than the lake! Those are surprising creations of Nature. Among white Archaean marbles entries to the caves open. Some of them have been known to the mankind for thousands of years, legends have been composed about them, shamans hold their rituals here nowadays. Some others have been discovered by speleologists only lately, and they have been startling people with unusual beauty of the grottoes, tiff crystals and corallites, bizarre ice sculptures.
The
program includes:
1. . Visiting the Aya and Vologodskogo caves.
The Aya cave is the longest one on the Baikal coastline. Its passages'
total extent makes 1300 meters. Since the ancient times the cave
has been one of the most honored shamanistic sites. Even during
the hottest summertime it is always cold here - there are snow crystals
on patterned walls, and transparent ice stalagmites on the floor
with red clay around. The walls are patterned by some unusual formations
- tiff corallites those are - which were formed thousands of years
ago on the shores of the cave lochs, non-existent at present. The
Vologodskogo cave is 17 meter deep. Having overcome two plumb wells,
you will feel a real explorer of the underground world. The Aya
bay caves leave an unforgettable impression!
2. Field dinner.

Note: the trip does not require special skills and abilities,
it is accessible for both adults and children; by the trip start
you will have had a 2 km hike. Your equipping is to correspond
to a winter forest hike.
